Problem importing logfiles

Hi all,
I am new to iolite so my question might be very dumb.

I am trying to import my very first session of LA-ICPMS data. My otolith transects are in 19 different files, one per transect, and I managed to import all of those smoothly.
However, when I try to import the log files (al named sessiondate_.Iolite.csv), I get an error message: "An error has occurred: could not read the date format in the laser log file "n/a". No data loaded. More information might be available in your session messages." In the messages I just get the same text, no more infos.

When opened in notepad, my log files look very similar to the gabbro file: most columns have the same name, and the dates are in the same format as the gabbro file (and the 19 sample files which were easily imported). I even asked the lab technician to send me the files again in case my copies were corrupted, and I made sure not to open them in excel before trying to import them in iolite.

Can anyone help me?

Hi Francesco,

That seems to be a problem with some files from Chromium (it was from a Chromium system, right?) I think sometimes certain spots/lines don't run, or are not recorded properly. This results in a laser log file starting with
"n/a" where the timestamp should be.

You can just open the log file and delete out any lines starting with "n/a". Just make sure you do it in a text editor like Notepad++ (Windows only) or Geany (Windows and Mac): Excel will automatically change the timestamps and remove the date portion, making the file unusable in iolite.

We'll work on adding a fix in iolite for when this happens. Hopefully it will be part of an upcoming release.

You are right, the files come from a Chromium system and the importing process worked smoothly after removing the n/a rows.
