Minimum integration duration time

Hi guys,
Why is the minimum integration box size is limited when trying to adjust them in the Time Series Windows? When using the automatic selection tool (from channels) it's possible to create integration boxes of (almost?) any sizes. I'm using a TOF so a 0.5s of integration box can represent several time slices. I understand that it may have some statistical issues when using a small number of integration but I would like IOLITE to provide the number in any circumstance if it's possible. Thanks!

Hi Dany,

I think the original idea was that we didn't want the selection to be so small that you couldn't select it and delete it etc. However, we have changed the way you can interact with the Time Series View now, so that shouldn't be a problem.

We could perhaps set up a minimum allowable selection duration in the Preferences? For most people, 1 s might be enough (a few sweeps), but for TOF users, much less than one second might be necessary.

I'll have a chat to Joe about how best to tackle this.

Thanks Joe! If a minimum time is still necessary to avoid negative or zero values, maybe 0.01s would be small enough.

Hi Dany,

We've now added this as an option you can set in Preferences – under Advanced. You can set it to any value you like, and the default value is 1 s.

It'll be available in the next release.

I should add that if you set the value too small, it will cause other issues. In particular, if your selection contains less than ₃ datapoints, the mean and uncertainty will be unreliable.

That is why we've put this option in the Advanced preferences 😉
