Difficulty in adding reference value

Hi everyone,

I am having some tough time adding a reference value to the iolite reference folder. Having created the text in "json" format, I tried importing via the "import iolite3 RM file" (using the "tools" function). I keep getting the response that a reference material with the file name already exists at the specified location. Yet I can't find the said reference value listed amongst my reference materials. What do I do?

Hi Edafe ,

I would try deleting the file you created "in JSON format" and trying the "Import iolitev3 RM file" option again.

If that doesn't work, you could try clicking the + button at the top of the list of reference materials in the Reference Materials browser, and selecting "Blank". This will create an empty RM file for you to enter the values.

If none of that works, please let us know.

Hi Bence,

Following your suggestion, I added the reference values in question. And they are now appearing on the reference list and in the correct format. However, whenever I try processing (crunching) my data with it, I get an error message (see attached screenshot). How do I resolve this, please?

Hi Edafe

The name of your selection group must match the name of your reference material exactly. If it is even slightly different (e.g. different case lettering) it won't be considered an RM by iolite.

You can tell if iolite considers a selection group to be a reference material. In the Time Series View, there is an icon beside each selection group. If it is a baseline group, the icon is an arrow pointing down. If the selection group is reference material, it will have a trophy icon. If it is a sample (unknown) selection group, it will have a target icon beside it. If your reference material has a target icon beside it, you can right-click on it and select 'Group Type -> Reference Material' and it will change to a reference material (asking you which RM it is if it cannot determine it automatically).

Thank you for the feedback. The suggestion worked. Evidently, iolite wasn't recognising my new reference material because I wasn't indicating it as such in the time series (during the group selections). Again, thank you for all your help.

I'm trying to add a RM through Import iolite3 RM File but it doesn't read .json files only .txt files. can someone help me with this?

Is the file you're adding an RM file from iolite v3? iolite v3 stored values in a .txt format.

If the RM file is in .json format, perhaps it's an iolite v4 RM file? If so, you can just put it into your Reference Materials folder. You can find the location of this folder in iolite's Preferences, in the Paths section. Clicking on the arrow -> icon button at the end of the path field will open the folder.

Please let us know if that doesn't solve your issue.
